Inec receives 12 new applications for registration of parties

The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) has received 12 new applications for the registration of political parties in the country.

Developments bring 122 of the number of associations who want to register political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

The previous commission had received 110 applications. Inec from various associations who are interested in floating parties throughout the country.

Commissioner and Chair of the National Inec, the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Oluumekun, revealed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

The statement reads: “On Monday last week (June 23, 2025), the commission announced that they had received applications from 110 associations that sought registration as a political party.

“We also convince Nigerians that we will provide routine updates on this issue. The Commission processes this application transparently and justice to all applicants.

“Meanwhile, the commission has received 12 more applications for registration as a political party yesterday, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, so that the total number of applications became 122.

“A list of new applications with names of associations, acronyms, addresses, and chairmen and temporary secretaries have been uploaded to our website and other platforms for public information. We will respond to this applicant in line with the actions of election and regulations and guidelines for political parties 2022.” “
