Nidcom: Nigerian miners blocked saved by car – Thage

By Barth Ikiebe

A group of Nigerian miners, who were blocked in the Republic of Central Africa, arrived safely at the Nigerian embassy in Bangui, following a joint intervention by the Nigerian mission and local security agencies.

The miners had previously asked for help through a viral video, supporting abandonment by a Chinese citizen and a Nigerian agent who had hired them for work and was unable to pay wages for eleven months.

Their appeal has pushed a quick action by officials of the Nigerian embassy and the safety of cars, which facilitated their transfer to the capital.

The director of the media, public relations and the protocol unit at the Nigerian commission of the diaspora, Abdul-Rahman Balogun, said that the miners were traumatized, weak and distressed after months of difficulty.

He said: “The Nigerians blocked in the car of the Republic of Central Africa have finally arrived at the Nigerian embassy in Bangui.

“It will be remembered that through a viral video, some Nigerian miners have asked for help and there was an immediate intervention and a rapid response of the officials of the Nigerian embassy and car safety that accompanied them from their position to the capital.

“The trip to Bangui took a number of days with the Nigerians, the victims of a Chinese citizen and a Nigerian agent, who hired them for work in that country and abandoned them there without paying their remuneration for eleven months”.

According to the declaration, the miners are now under the care of the embassy officials, who are making agreements for their return to Nigeria.

“Now they are in the safe hands of the officials of the Nigerian embassy who will organize their return home.

“They expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to the ministers of foreign affairs and the staff of both countries, the Nigerian embassy, the car safety agencies and the Nigerians who shared their stories,” added the note.

Balogun said that the Nigerian agent accused of attracting them in the work and of having abandoned them has been identified and is currently in Nigeria.

“The agent who attracted them in the scam of work is currently based in Nigeria and has been identified and should be pursued,” he observed.
