Tinubu approves the increase in pensions, free health care for retired police officers after the protest

President Bola Tinubu approved the implementation of pension increases and a minimum pension warranty for retired police officers pursuant to the contribution program (CPS), following the protests of the former ABUJA soldiers.

The directive was disclosed in a declaration issued on Wednesday by the special consultant to the president for information and strategies, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the declaration, Tinubu also commissioned the immediate implementation of free health care for low -income pensioners at national level, strengthening the commitment of his administration towards social well -being and the reform of the safety sector.

The president’s decision followed a briefing he received from the general manager of the National Pension Commission (Pencom), Omolola Olowraran, who highlighted the long -standing complaints of police pensioners and the current efforts to protect pension resources in the midst of inflationary pressures.

Tinubu expressed concern about the difficult situation of retired police officers, underlining that those who have spent their career to safeguard the country must be authorized to retire with dignity.

“The members of the police forces that serve and protect the nation deserve to retire with dignity and tranquility,” said Tinubu.

The Pence boss also informed the president of new initiatives aimed at expanding the scope of the pension system, including a framework proposed for the contributions in foreign currency that would allow the Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the CPS.

President Tinubu has thrown his weight behind the proposed reforms, ensuring that his administration remains committed to inclusive economic growth and improved well -being for all categories of retirees.

The president’s directive comes days after dozens of retired police officers organized a protest in Abuja, asking for improved well -being and the implementation of long -term pension reforms.
