Police charge two brothers and a woman for the alleged murder of an Abuja businessman

The Federal Capital Territory Police have arraigned two sons of a deceased businessman, Adimike Godwin, alongside a woman before the FCT High Court for the alleged murder of the businessman in Abuja.

The accused, Adimike Anthony, Adimike Stephany and Comfort Ajibade, were arrested on Monday on four charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and alleged offenses under the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

The court ordered the custody of the three accused at Suleja Correctional Center and adjourned the case to September 30, 2026, for further proceedings.

The FCT Police Command said the deceased was allegedly stabbed to death at his residence in Guzape area of Abuja on May 15, 2026.

According to command spokesperson Josephine Adeh, the incident came to light after a relative raised the alarm when repeated attempts to reach the deceased proved unsuccessful.

He said detectives from the Guzape division headquarters responded to the distress call and found the victim unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds.

“He was immediately rushed to Karu General Hospital where he was confirmed dead by medical staff on duty,” the statement read.

Adeh said the police commissioner, Ahmed Sanusi, directed a thorough investigation into the murder, which led to the arrest of five suspects, including the deceased’s driver and doorman.

She, however, revealed that after the conclusion of the investigation, only Anthony, Stephany and Ajibade were charged before the court.

Police say the three defendants are jointly charged with conspiracy to commit manslaughter and manslaughter in connection with Godwin’s death.

The command further said that Anthony had been separately charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, while Stephany and Ajibade had been jointly charged under the provisions of the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

The police maintained that the charge was based on the outcome of its investigation.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice in the case by respecting the constitutional rights of all parties involved throughout the judicial process.

The charges remain charges and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
