Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump have begun their conversation at the White House.
The President of Ukraine and his American colleagues shakes hands over Zelenskyy’s arrival at the White House.
Greetings are friendly, with Trump put his arm on Zelenskyy’s shoulder for a moment when the two smiled.
They then headed to the oval office, where Zelenskyy thanked Trump for “his personal efforts and efforts to stop the murder and stop this war”.
Ukraine players added: “We need to stop this war to stop Russia, and we need support, American and European partners,” with Trump said there will be several forms of security guarantees for Ukraine.
This will include US involvement in providing them, but Trump does not say whether security guarantees will involve US troops. He then added that the US would provide “excellent protection” for Ukraine.
Tri-lateral meeting possible
The US president said that “If everything goes well today”, there will be a tri-lateral meeting between him, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy. The last says he is ready for a meeting like that.
At the end of the press conference at the oval office, Putin said he would call with Putin “right after” the White House meeting.
Trump and Mr. Zelenskyy will then meet European leaders, including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron from France, for a multi-lateral meeting in the east room of the White House.
The conversation came only a few days after the Alaska Trump Summit with Putin.
At the Summit, Mr. Putin is reported to have demanded Control the area of Donetsk and East Luhanansk Ukraine as a condition for ending the war.
Instead, Russia will submit other Ukraine territory held by its troops, according to several news reports quoting sources close to this problem.
Russian troops are currently occupying most of the two regions and, in September 2022, Moscow announced officially annexing them, along with the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, in a step that was rejected and condemned as illegal by the West.

This time, Mr. Zelenskyy appeared to adjust the tone by arriving at the White House wearing a smart black collared shirt and a black jacket with a collar.
Sky News’ Correspondent as Mark Stone says he believes this is “will be seen as a very important moment. We have learned with Donald Trump that trivial matters are as much detail”.
Speaking after Zelenskyy and Trump answered questions from reporters at the oval office, Mr. Stone said: “Zelenskyy learned since then six months ago and he learned from what other European leaders said and other world leaders also with moments of this oval office – that the best policy was a little possible.”
Mr Stone explained how the best tactics to deal with Mr. Trump in front of reporters are: “Don’t answer questions. Don’t get up to the bait. Enter there and get out as fast as you can and this time, that’s what Zelenskyy did.”
