Strange disease kills four brothers in Kano

A family in the community of Hotoron Yan Dodo of the State of Kano was affected by a devastating tragedy after four of their five children died of strange diseases in just two weeks.

The father of the children, Malam Yusuf Maitama, told the tears in tears, explaining how his children got sick one after the other.

The symptoms – fever, sore throat, nasal discharge and appearance of a white membrane in the throat – were classic signs of diphtheria, although the family initially did not recognize the mortal disease.

The first to fall in love was the youngest, a girl under the age of five.

“She woke up with fever, sore throat, phlegm and a white substance visible in the throat,” said Malam Yusuf.

The family tried to manage her condition at home, but as she weakens, they took her to the hospital. Unfortunately, she died on the same day.

A few days later, his seven -year -old sister showed similar symptoms and also died within two days of the hospital assumption.

“That was the second child in a week,” explained the father in mourning. “At the beginning, people even suggested that perhaps they were spiritual. But the doctors confirmed that it was diphtheria. It was then that I realized that the rest of my children was at serious risk.”

The three remaining children of Malam Yusuf were all tested and found infected. Two of them also sold to the disease, leaving only the eldest daughter, survived after receiving urgent medical treatments.

The father described the particularly painful loss of the third victim.

“The third victim died seven days after his sisters. He had already been admitted to the teaching hospital in Aminu Kano, where the doctors said that one of his kidneys was failing,” he said, his heavy voice of emotion.

“But because of the lack of available hospital beds, we had to bring his home temporarily. She died that night.” [Nigerian Tribune]
