The Nigerian postal service has announced that all the postal items sent by Nigeria to the United States, with the exception of letters and documents, will now attract a prepaid customs duty of $ 80 at the acceptance point.

The new withdrawal, which entered into force on August 29, 2025, complies with an executive order issued by the United States government which supports exemptions from duty for all countries pursuant to the Internazional Emergency Economic Powers Act.

In a declaration on Friday, Nipost explained that the directive affects postal administrations globally and not only Nigeria.

He also warned that more severe measures by airlines and load carriers on shipments related to the United States could cause longer transit and processing times, leading to possible delivery delays.

The agency has revealed that it is committing to the universal postal union, the protection of customs and borders of the United States and air partners to minimize interruptions.

“Nipost remains committed to providing postal and efficient services for the courier and efficient despite this global regulatory adjustment”, reads the declaration
