A man killed by sharks in Australia has been mentioned, when a witness described the scream hearing “don’t bite me” a few moments before a fatal attack.
Emergency services respond to reports that a man in his 50s suffered a critical injury in Long Reef Beach, Sydney, Shortly after 10 am (1 in the morning in England) on Saturday.
The authorities said that the man was taken to the beach but died at the scene.
Victims – named Australia as Mercury Psillakis – married and had a daughter, said the police – with the incident occurred the day before father’s day in Australia.
Two parts of the surfboard have been found and taken to be examined, and the beaches near the area are closed when the drone is looking for the animal.
The police work with wildlife experts to determine the shark species involved.
The scream ‘Don’t Bite Me’ was heard by the Witness
Speaking to Sky News Australia, witness Mark Morgenthal said he saw the attack and that the shark was one of the biggest he had ever seen.
“There was a man who shouted, ‘I don’t want to be bitten, I don’t want to be bitten, don’t bite me,’ and I see shark’s dorsal fins appear, and it’s very big,” said Mr. Morgenthal.
“Then I saw the tail fins appearing and began to kick, and the distance between the dorsal fins and tail fins appeared about four meters, so it really looked like a six meter shark.”
The victim is a father and experienced surfers
New South South Wales Police Inspector John Duncan said at a press conference that the 57 -year -old victim called the incident as a “terrible tragedy”.
“The man had come out around 9.30 this morning with some of his friends, about five or six of his friends,” he added. “He is the experienced surfers we understand.
“Unfortunately, it will be seen that the big one, what we believe is a shark, has attacked him. And as a result, he lost a number of limbs.
“His colleagues managed to return to the beach safely, and a few moments later, his body was found floating in the waves, and several others came out and recovering it.”
Mr Duncan added that the officer “understood he left a wife and daughter … and obviously tomorrow became a very critical and very tragic father’s day”.
Local surfers and eyewitnesses Bill Sakula also told reporters at the beach: “This will send waves of shock through the community.
“Everyone will be a little nervous for a while.”
