Nigerian crude oil production is under the OPEC quota, down to 1.43MBPD in August

After meeting the crude oil production quota determined by the petroleum export state organizations (OPEC) in January, June and July 2025, Nigerian crude oil production received a blow in August 2025, down to 1.43 million barrels per day.

This is according to the monthly oil market report (Momr) released by oil cartels in Austria on Friday, September 12, 2025.

The report noted that the figure represented a decline of 4.40 percent from 1.50 million BPD in the previous month.

According to the Oil Alliance, the production numbers come from direct communication with the Nigerian authority.

With the current level of production, the Global Oil Organization said Nigeria maintains its position as a leading African oil producer, exceeding Libya, which records an output of 1.38 million BPD.

Also, OPEC said that the country’s oil production in August fell under the quota assigned to the country of 1.5 million BPD – after two months in order to meet the quota.

Oil cartel said data from secondary sources placed Nigerian crude oil production at 1.54 million BPD in August – a decline of 0.15 percent from 1.55 million BPD recorded in July.

Quoting secondary sources, OPEC said “Total production of crude oil DOC averaged 42.40 MB/day in August 2025, which is 509 TB/d higher, mother”.
