Bandit kidnapped 40 worshipers in Zamfara

The armed people suspected of being bandits on Monday kidnapped 40 worshipers in the village of Gidan Turbe in the Tsafe area of the regional government of the state of Zamfara.

A security expert, Zagazola Makama, confirmed the news about his X grip on Monday morning.

He said the abduction of the worshipers came only a day after a peaceful agreement that many people saw as the right step taken to deliver eternal peace in the northwestern state.

Makama, who quoted local sources in the community, said the attack occurred during the prayer of Islamic fajr around 5:30 am, when the armed men invaded the mosque, surrounded it, and brought the worshipers with weapons.

Makama said: “Local sources revealed that the kidnappers then moved the prisoners to the forest around the Gohori axis in Tsafe.

“The incident had thrown rural communities into the hotth and despair, coming when local leaders and several armed groups in Katsina and neighboring countries were reported to have entered into a ceasefire aimed at reducing attacks.

“The attack refers to the fragility of the ongoing peace arrangement in the region, where heavy armed groups continue to operate with impunity despite dialogue initiatives.

“The bandits do not have commands, structures, and controls. You can negotiate with bandits in Katsina while they continue to attack in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and the state of Kaduna.

“When submitting this report, there was no official confirmation from the security authority in the state of Zamfara.”
