A Nigerian citizen based in the United Kingdom, Farouk Adekunle Adepoju, was arrested in relation to an alleged computer fraud of $ 235,000 who aimed at a university in the United States.
The arrest, conducted by the British authorities on September 15, 2025, follows a request for formal extradition from the United States government.
Appoju is currently awaiting transfer to the western district of Pennsylvania, where he should face the process.
According to an unfailed accusation, Mappeju would have orchestrated a computer attack between March and April 2023, having the computer systems of a western Pennsylvania construction company contracted by a university.
Public ministries claim to have manipulated the internal and -mail rules, that they have created a fraudulent address e -mail and to have led university officials in the wiring of $ 235,266.80 to a false bank account.
The stolen funds are yet to be recovered.
The acting of the American prosecutor Troy Rivetti said that Parepoju employed “sophisticated IT techniques” to illegally access with company accounts and siphon funds.
“Even from the middle of the world, it was not beyond the investigative reach of the FBI,” said Rivetti.
Adepoju deals with six counties of FRODE FIRE and a counting of computer fraud. If sentenced, it could spend up to 20 years in prison for each counting of the thread fraud and five years for the accusation of computer fraud.
The special Agent of the FBI Pittsburgh in office, Kevin Rojek, warned that the IT criminals operating beyond the boundaries would not have evaded justice.
“The FBI and our partners will pursue you wherever you are,” he said
