Real approval: Igwe Maduagwuna praises “The Village Priest” by Remmy NWEKE

His real majesty, Igwe Ezekwesili Maduagwuna, Ophemili I of Awba-Of-Emili, praised Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke, award-winning journalist and author of “The Village Priest”, on his book.

The monarch described the book as “a cultural milestone that fills tradition and innovation”.

He praised when he received the author in his building, where Nweke presented him with a copy of the book.

He urged the author to remain firm in the use of literature and journalism to advance knowledge, preserve heritage and promote progressive change.

The event was testified by the President of the Progressive Oyeagu-Awba (Opu) Union, Godwin Obi, who led his team to the presentation at the Royal Palace.

The priest of the village explores the story of Ogboo Anieze, the revered chief priest of Ilimefo, while navigating in the realities of modern digital technology while striving to protect the traditional Igbo values. The book has made a great praise for its rich representation of how rural African communities face the pressure of modernity without losing their cultural identity.

The work was recently highlighted at the Forum della Nigeria Digitalsense Africa on the governance of the Internet for development (IG4D), where the interested parties of the Tic greeted its depth and relevance for the digital transformation of rural communities.

The review of the book, Gbenga Sesan, executive director of the Paradigm Initiative, described it as “a careful work of cultural documentation” and “a nuanced representation of the way in which innovative technology is transforming rural communities”.

As a proud son of Awba-Ofmili, the result of NWEKE has been widely celebrated. The praise of Igwe Maduagwuna increases the growing recognition of the book both as a cultural archive and as a forward -looking narration.

In addition to the priest of the village, Nweke wrote several remarkable works, including the role of Nigeria in maintaining peace in West Africa, a decade of ICT reportage and sagacity of the digital revolution.
