A high court of the territory of the federal capital of Jabi on Monday sentenced a former legislative helper and banker, Goni Yilkan, eight years in prison for having obtained N10.58 million for false claim.

According to EFCC, the prisoner was accused of a Mohammed Adamu in October 2023, following investigations on the statements of a signatory to be defrauded by the prisoner.

One of the accusations read:

During the trial, EFCC said that the signatory explained that “Yilkan deceived her between 2020 and 2021 in believing that she has the ability to guarantee work slots in government agencies such as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Niger (NDDC) development commission.

“At this point, the signatory has collected several sums of money from over 60 people looking for work, equal to N120,580,550.00 (one hundred and twenty millions, five hundred and seventy thousand, five hundred and fifty naira), which presumably put back to Convict.”

The judge further sentenced Yilkan to eight years of imprisonment without a fine option.
