The high state courtyard of Akwa Ibom, sitting in Uyo, condemned a soldier fired with the Nigerian army, 6 battalions, Ibagwa in Abak, corporal Stephen Iweh, to death, hanging the murder of a 42 -year -old man, Christopher Eublg Jimmy.
The accident occurred on May 23, 2021, on the East-West road in the area of the local government of Ikot Abasi.
The late Jimmy, a manager of a company of clearing and forwarding to Port Harcourt, had offered the corporal an elevator in his car from the One Trailer Park, in the state of sparrows, to Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom.
Along the way, in Oboro Junction in Ikot Abasi, the 39 -year -old soldier shot him dead before fleeing the vehicle and valuables.
The investigations revealed that the corporal Iweh, father of three children, had illegally maintained the AK-47 rifle that he said he “chosen to Dambou, in the state of Borno, in 2018, and had decided to keep him as personal weapons”.
On that fateful day, corporal Iweh should have been on duty in the army shops, 6 battalions, Ibagwa, Abak, but abandoned his assignment to commit crime.
Later he was tracked down to Andy Guest House in Ukanafun, many kilometers from the crime scene, where he was arrested and the rifle recovered.
In a sentence, the judge of the trial, the judge Bassey Nkanang, said that the accusation has shown beyond any reasonable doubt that corporal Iweh, originally from Ameke Nkor in the area of the local government of Ngor Okpala of the state of imo, killed Christopher enobong, an indigenous, an indigenous of the ikot abasi, and his car robbed him, while he robbed him. He was armed with an AK-47 Hak.
Judge Nkanang sentenced him on charges of three counts.
He was sentenced to death by hanging from murder, death by hanging from armed robbery and 10 years of prison for illegal possession of firearms.
In his reason for mercy, the prisoner implored the court for what he described as a “soft landing”, but his own Allocutus was rejected.
The late Christopher Jimmy survived his 34 -year -old widow, Arit, who told in tears that his husband had left Port Harcourt to visit his sister and his family at Ikot Abasi, but did not return home.
