Minister of State for Finance-designate, Taiwo Oyedele, has announced that 12 states have enacted the new Federal Government Tax Harmonization Act, introduced as part of the ongoing fiscal reforms.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday at the graduation of 5,900 entrepreneurs trained by the MTN Foundation, Oyedele explained that 13 other states had submitted the law to their Houses of Assembly, while several other states were at different stages of implementation.
The law, which came into effect on January 1, 2026, aims to modernize Nigeria’s tax system, eliminate multiple and annoying levies, protect citizens from harassment, simplify the tax process, and ensure fairness in tax administration. “These reforms are designed to help businesses thrive, protect vulnerable groups, and reset Nigeria’s fiscal framework for economic transformation,” Oyedele said.
