Baba Ijesha sparks fresh controversy, claims sexual assault case was ‘fabricated’ in new song

Convicted Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has courted fresh controversy after releasing a song in which he challenged the circumstances surrounding the sexual assault case that landed him in prison.

In a song titled “Eniwaye Daran,” uploaded to his YouTube channel on Friday, the actor presented his version of the events that led to his arrest in April 2021, claiming that he was lured into a trap by his former colleagues.

The song recalls the highly publicized case that shocked the Nigerian entertainment industry and sparked national outrage after comedian Damilola Adekoya, known as Princess, accused the actor of sexually assaulting her 14-year-old adopted daughter.

In his lyrics, Baba Ijesha alleged that he was invited to Putri’s residence on the pretext of discussing film roles and eating together. He admitted he was told to rehearse a scene with a young girl while waiting for food that was supposed to be prepared for him.

According to the actor, what he believed to be a film rehearsal suddenly escalated when a group of people allegedly stormed the room and accused him of trespassing.

He further stated that several people conspired against him and expressed bitterness over what he described as betrayal by colleagues and industry figures.

The actor also used the song to reflect on his time in prison, saying the experience significantly changed his life while warning fans to be careful who they trust.

Baba Ijesha was arrested in April 2021 after a video showing him in a compromising situation with a minor emerged online, sparking intense public outrage and calls for justice.

The case attracted widespread attention across Nigeria, and several celebrities and activists spoke out. Actress Iyabo Ojo is among the most vocal voices advocating for accountability during legal proceedings.

Following the trial, the Lagos State Special Offenses Court convicted the actor of charges related to sexual assault involving a minor, which led to his imprisonment.

His latest song has now reignited public discussion around the case, years after the incident first rocked Nollywood and sparked a national debate on child protection and accountability in the entertainment industry.
