The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 16 suspects for alleged involvement in various criminal activities.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NSCDC, Afolabi Babawale, disclosed this to journalists on Monday in Abuja.
He said the suspects were arrested for offenses ranging from unlawful possession of firearms, local manufacture of firearms, and criminal conspiracy.
Other violations include printing counterfeit United States dollar bills, obtaining under false pretenses, criminal trespass, alleged kidnapping and illegal mining activities.
The spokesperson added that the operation was carried out by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CGs SIS), personnel from Kano command and operatives stationed at BUA Cement Company, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to him, a suspect belonging to a syndicate posing as a private security guard was arrested in Kano State in possession of six new locally made rifles.
“In another operation, a 39-year-old man who specializes in the production of locally made weapons and allegedly sells them to kidnappers, bandits, rebels and other criminals was arrested.
”Exhibits used in the production recovered from it include six improvised gun pipes, three improvised fire selectors, six saw blades, 12 hand files, a hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, a bicycle fender, pieces of sandpaper, a knife, etc.
“He also admitted to selling firearms to the male suspect who we are currently detaining,” said Babawale.
