ADC Sanctions Wuse District Officials Over Alleged Suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe – THISAGE

By Victor Osula, Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended three executive members of its Wuse district in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) for their alleged involvement in the “illegal” suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe.

The suspended officials are the district chairperson, Kanayo Chukwu, along with Amanda Pam and Omale Suleiman

Addressing journalists and party members in Abuja on Sunday, a member of the National Working Committee (NWC), Emmanuel Destiny, described the alleged suspension of the senator as a violation of the party constitution and due process.

According to Destiny, the decision lacked legitimacy because no formal complaint or petition had been filed with the party’s national leadership.

“The party is supreme to every individual. Up to now, the national wing of the party has not received any letter of complaint or petition against Senator Kingibe. You cannot wake up and suspend a sitting senator without putting your grievances or petitions in writing,” he said.

Stressing that the ADC will not tolerate what he described as misconduct by department officials, Destiny warned that further disciplinary action could follow.

“We are fully present to say ‘No’ to such shenanigans and misbehavior of a self-acclaimed Wuse District Chairman not recognized by the party.

“Whatever gangsterism they have displayed in the last 72 hours, the national wing of the party will take comprehensive disciplinary action against them,” he said.

Also speaking, the party’s deputy national auditor, Princess Nneka Nneboh, said the leadership had initially given those involved time to follow proper procedures but decided to take action after they had failed to do so.

“There is no point in remaining silent because we have asked them to do the right thing and follow the correct channel. Whatever decision we make here today stands and, as a national official, I want to say that it is time to call a spade a spade. Enough is enough,” he said.

FCT party secretary John Hyginus also criticized what he described as administrative errors and disregard for the party’s constitution.

He said the ward and area council chairmen approved a vote of no confidence in the three officials over their role in initiating the senator’s suspension.

“We are here to address the state president’s administrative incompetence and gross violation of the party constitution as well as various anti-party activities committed by him.

“Today, the neighborhood and area council chairmen approved a vote of no confidence in the three initiators of the suspension of Senator Kingibe,” Hyginus said.

The meeting, which took place at the FCT ADC Secretariat in Abuja, was attended by several party leaders and stakeholders, including FCT President, Clement Ihigiato; FCT Secretary John Hyginus; AMAC President, Emeka Nnamani; as well as party leaders Danlami Zuru and Jemila Ahmadu, among others.

The controversy began earlier in the week when officials in the party’s Wuse Ward announced the suspension of Kingibe over allegations of anti-party activity, insubordination and breach of party rules.

The senator was also accused of withholding funds meant for the party’s campaigns during the recent FCT area council elections.

However, the party’s national leadership distanced itself from the decision.

In an earlier statement, the party’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, urged the public and media to ignore the advert, describing it as false and misleading.

The motion calling for the suspension of the three ward leaders was moved by ADC chief Danlami Zuru and seconded by ward executive member Samuel Dimgba.
