NFF appeals FIFA’s rejection of World Cup petition, may address CAS

The NFF will appeal FIFA’s decision to dismiss its protest against the Democratic Republic of Congo for allegedly fielding several ineligible players in a playoff final clash in November and senior officials said they could take their protest to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Nigeria has submitted a petition to FIFA alleging that several players were fraudulently cleared to play for the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the CAF final playoffs in November in Morocco.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo won the clash 4-3 on penalties after the goals even after extra time were 1-1.

NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi said they will appeal FIFA’s verdict.

“We have received the decision of the FIFA disciplinary committee on our request, but we are not satisfied with the decision, which rejected our request,” Sanusi said.

“I want to assure Nigerians that the NFF has immediately commenced the process of appealing the decision.”

The Intercontinental Qualifiers to decide two tickets to the World Cup will be held in Mexico during the international break from March 23 to 31.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo will face the winners between Jamaica and New Caledonia on March 27 to fight for one of the tickets to the worldwhich starts in June.
