Large crowds attend ‘No King’ rallies against Trump across US | US News

Tens of thousands of anti-Trump protesters attended “No King” rallies on Saturday across the US.

More than 3,200 events ‌are planned in all 50 states, and organizers hope it will be the largest single-day protest in US history.

There were demonstrations in cities including Washington DC, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as further afield in London and Paris, where people demonstrated against Iran’s war.

Organizers estimate nine million people will take part in America this time, after the first two rounds of demonstrations last June and October attracted five million and seven million people respectively.

The demonstration took place as Donald TrumpTrump’s approval rating fell to 36%, its lowest point since he returned to power, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

And an NBC News national poll earlier this month found that a majority of registered voters in the US disapprove of the president’s handling of immigration, Iran, inflation and the cost of living.

The main rally on Saturday took place in the state of Minnesota, where Renee Good And Beautiful Alex shot dead in January by federal agents in the city Minneapolis as they monitor a crackdown on illegal immigration.

About 100,000 people were expected to attend as people stood on the grounds of the Minnesota Capitol and surrounding streets in St Paul, with Bruce Springsteen headlining the event.

The US singer performed his song Streets of Minneapolis which he wrote in response to the two fatal shootings.

Springsteen said that the fight against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has given hope to the entire country.

“Your strength and commitment tell us that this is still America,” he said.

“And this reactionary nightmare, and its invasion of American cities, will not stand.”

But White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said the demonstrations were supported by a “left-wing funding network” with little real public support.

“The only people who care about Trump’s Chaos Therapy Session are the reporters paid to cover it,” Ms Jackson said in a statement.

And Mike Marinella, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, criticized ‌Democratic politicians and candidates for supporting the demonstrations.

Meanwhile, vice president JD Vance is this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference pick to be the Republican nominee for the next US president, ahead of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to a poll.

In Washington DC, hundreds of people marched past the Lincoln Memorial and onto the National Mall, holding signs reading “Put down the crown, clown” and “Regime change starts at home”.

Protesters also rang bells, played drums and chanted “No King.”

In New York, thousands gathered in Manhattan, where actor Robert De Niro said “there have been other presidents who have tested the constitutional limits of their power, but none who have posed a major threat to our freedom and security”.

In San Diego, police said about 40,000 people rallied in a “No King” event.

However, organizers say two-thirds of the rallies are expected to take place outside major urban centers.

They include communities in conservative-leaning states such as Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, South Dakota and Louisiana, as well as in suburban areas of Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona.

The first Kingless Day protest in June 2025 was held amid Trump’s decision to hold a military parade in Washington on his birthday.

At the time, the president told reporters that “if any protesters want to leave, they will be met with enormous force.”

And in Paris, several hundred people, mostly Americans living in France, along with those from French labor unions and human rights organizations, gathered at the Bastille.

In Rome, thousands of people took part in demonstrations against conservative Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. They also protested against Israeli and US attacks on Iran, calling for a “world free from war”.
