Nigeria’s broadcasting organizations have announced plans to host the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) on April 8, 2026 in Abuja, as part of efforts to promote professionalism and reward excellence in the country’s broadcasting sector.
According to a statement released on Thursday, the event will be held at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, from 6pm to 9pm.
BON said the awards, approved at its 74th General Assembly in Kano in 2021, were designed to celebrate outstanding contributions and encourage high standards in radio and television broadcasting.
Organizers revealed that the 2026 edition attracted 204 entries, reflecting performances broadcast in 2024, following a nationwide call for proposals.
The awards selection committee, chaired by former Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Danladi Bako, includes representatives from key industry bodies, including the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria and the National Broadcasting Commission, along with veteran broadcasters.
A total of 24 categories will compete at the ceremony, covering both the radio and television segments. These include Station of the Year, Reporter of the Year, Journalist of the Year and Producer of the Year.
In addition to the competitive awards, BON said the event will recognize notable figures who have made significant contributions to the development of broadcasting in Nigeria.
Among those billed for lifetime achievement honors are Shyngle Wigwe, Yemi Farounbi and John Momoh.
Others include Abubakar Jijiwa, Sa’a Ibrahim and Bimbo Oloyede.
The awards will also include posthumous recognition for industry icons such as Raymond Dokpesi, along with Timawus Mathias, Okokon Ndem, Anike Agbaje-Williams and Patrick Ityohegh.
Additionally, BON said it will honor key public officials and stakeholders for their support of the media sector.
Among them the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; governors Bassey Otu, Dauda Lawal and Uba Sani; as well as former executive secretary of the BON, Obadiah Tohomdet.
Corporate organizations to be recognized include DAAR Communications Plc, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, Desmins Broadcasting (DITV) and Voice of Nigeria.
BON noted that the awards ceremony will not only celebrate excellence but also serve as a platform to inspire innovation and support growth in Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape.
