NDLEA intercepted 2 trucks carrying 7.2 tonnes of marijuana in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted two articulated trucks loaded with 7.2 tonnes of suspected cannabis in Edo State.

NDLEA Commander in the state, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this at a press conference on Monday in Benin City.

He said five suspected smugglers were arrested in connection with drugs along the Auchi-Abuja highway.

Ofoyeju said: “The successful interception of these suspected drug trucks is a clear message to drug lords that Edo is not a safe haven for drug cartels.

“The scale of this seizure (over seven metric tons) with a street value of N724 million, highlights the enormous effectiveness of intelligence-based command and operations.

“The operation, which was conducted after 72 hours of surveillance and intelligence gathering, led officers to intercept the trucks disguised as career trucks.”
