CP urges broadcasters to project Nigeria positively and promote culture

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Olubode Bode Ojajuni, has urged broadcasters to promote positive narratives about Nigeria and prioritize the projection of the country’s cultural heritage in their programming.

Ojajuni made the allegation on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by members of the Association of Nigerian Broadcasters, Ogun State Chapter, to the state police command headquarters.

The delegation, led by ANBROAD State Governor, Gbenga Goke Fadiran, visited the Police Chief to welcome him to the State and strengthen collaboration between the media and the Nigeria Police Force.

Addressing broadcasters, Ojajuni stressed the need for responsible journalism, warning against content that may incite unrest or undermine national unity.

He said: “The media plays a vital role in shaping public perception. I urge you to always project Nigeria and Ogun State in a positive light and promote our rich cultural values rather than foreign cultures.

“In carrying out your duties you must exercise professionalism and discretion, especially on sensitive issues, to avoid creating tensions in society.”

The Police Commissioner praised the association’s members for their contributions to national development, stressing that their platforms remain vital tools for information dissemination and public enlightenment.

Previously, Fadiran said the visit was aimed at promoting synergy between the association and the police to ensure effective communication and public safety.

He highlighted the role of ANBROAD members in producing quality content on radio, television and digital platforms, adding that the association includes broadcasters, station owners, educators, entertainers and information managers.

Fadiran reiterated the association’s commitment to responsible broadcasting and collaboration with security agencies in promoting peace and stability.

Also present at the meeting were a state and national leader of ANBROAD and the General Manager of Fresh 107.9 FM, Abeokuta, Goke Babalola; Rasheed Ojelabi Oreoba; Olufemi Omilani; and Muriziq Oluwatosin.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, who was also present, had earlier profiled the Commissioner and facilitated presentations by members of the delegation.
