Ndume is vying for a fifth term in the Senate, the group raised N38.5 million for the ticket

Senator Muhammadu Ali Ndume representing Borno South district is set to seek a fifth term in the Senate, as youth groups from the nine (9) local government areas of the district said on Saturday that they donated N38.5 million for the purchase of expressions of interest and nomination forms for him.

The group’s coordinator, Alhaji Babandi Shehuho announced this in Maiduguri, citing his courage in speaking truth to power and checking executive overreach.

“Ndume is not just a senator; he is a nationalist,” said the group’s coordinator.

“At this stage of its political history, Nigeria needs senators like Ndume who fearlessly check executive excesses and speak truth to power, regardless of whose cow is gored,” explained the youth leader.

“So we gathered here to collect and contribute towards the purchase of the items he needs not only because he is a tried and trusted representative of South Borno in the Red Chamber, but also because the country and democracy really need him there,” said Shehu.

Senator Ndume’s Senior Head of Communications and Legislative Assistance Strategy, Junaid Jibril Maiva, said:

“He had 76 community-oriented bills; he was also the main force behind the establishment of the Federal College of Education, Gwoza, and the proposed Federal Medical Centre, Kwaya-Kusar; and the Federal College of Agriculture, Shani; he also masterminded the establishment of the Nigerian Army University, Biu; and the North East Development Commission, among many others,” recalled Maiva.

The aide also recalled that Senator Ndume built 200 houses in Gwoza and 80 houses in Damboa for refugees.

“So, to ensure continuity, these young people feel it is appropriate to mobilize resources for Ndume’s continuation as senator in the 2027 elections, which will be his fifth term in the Red Chamber,” said Maiva.

The N38.5 million collected on the spot comprised N8 million from Biu, Kwaya-Kusar, Hawul, Bayo and Shani; N5 million from Askira-Uba, N2 million from Damboa LGA; N1 million each from the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Baga Road, Maiduguri Timber Sellers Association.

Senator Muhammadu Ali Ndume has been the senator representing Borno South senatorial district in the National Assembly since 2011.
