The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the tragic killing of the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Mali, Lt. Gen. Sadio Camara, following the terrorist attacks on April 25, 2026.
Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry, conveyed this message in a statement on Thursday 30 April 2026, expressing Nigeria’s deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the Malian Armed Forces. Nigeria also expressed its condolences to the government and people of Mali at this critical moment in the country’s history.
Ebienfa noted that in times like these, when the fragility of human life is tested by violence, the bonds between nations are felt more deeply. “Nigeria stands in solidarity with Mali and reaffirms the enduring bonds of brotherhood, shared destiny and collective resilience that define the African spirit,” he added.
The Nigerian government has condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Mali, describing them as cowardly acts that threaten national stability and undermine the shared values of peace, dignity and coexistence that unite African nations.
“Terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, remains a common adversary that requires a unified resolution, sustained cooperation and the reaffirmation of our common humanity to confront it,” Ebienfa said, underlining the need for a collective effort to combat terrorism.
He also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to support Mali in safeguarding its sovereignty, preserving its territorial integrity and working to restore lasting peace and security. Nigeria, according to the spokesperson, remains committed to working with Mali and other regional and international partners to address the threat of terrorism.
“Nigeria is committed to promoting stability in the Sahel and the broader West African sub-region,” Ebienfa said. He also called for greater solidarity among nations, stressing that the peace of one is inseparable from the peace of all.
