The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday condemned an Iranian drone attack on commercial vessels linked to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as they transited the Strait of Hormuz.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, described the incident as a “blatant violation” of United Nations Security Council resolutions that stressed freedom of navigation and prohibited attacks on commercial vessels or disruption of international shipping lanes.
Two drones were used in the attack, while no injuries were reported.
The ministry said targeting commercial ships and using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic pressure or coercion amounted to “acts of piracy” by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
He added that it poses a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security.
The UAE called on Iran to halt further actions, end hostilities and ensure the full and unconditional reopening of the strait to safeguard regional security and global trade stability.
State-owned ADNOC is one of the largest oil and gas producers in the world and serves as a primary driver for the UAE’s economic growth.
