Former Chief Executive Officer of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), Elohor Aiboni, currently serving as Asset Director at Brunei Shell Petroleum, has been appointed Executive Vice President and Country Chair Nigeria, taking over from Marno de Jong who is leaving Shell to pursue an opportunity elsewhere, after a 34-year career with the Company.

Marno was appointed Senior Vice President of Nigeria in 2020 and subsequently became Executive Vice President in addition to his role as Country President, overseeing all of Shell’s operations in Nigeria.

Marno

Marno joined Shell in 1992 as a project engineer at the start of a career which has seen him work across project delivery, engineering, commercial and upstream development sectors in the UK, Venezuela, Nigeria, Australia, the US, the Netherlands, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Under his leadership, Bonga, Nigeria’s flagship asset, has achieved strong performance, maintaining high availability well above target, while he has also been instrumental in advancing important key investment decisions, including the HI offshore gas project and the Bonga North development.

Marno said: “I am grateful for the support I have enjoyed since my time in Nigeria, which has enabled us to make progress on many fronts. I leave with fond memories of warm friendships and strong support from Shell colleagues and our partners. I am confident that Shell’s operations in Nigeria will continue to deliver value and growth under Elohor, given the strong leadership credentials he brings to the roles, and I wish Shell Nigeria every success.”

Elohor is the first Nigerian to take on the joint role of Executive Vice President and National President of Nigeria, bringing with him over 24 years of experience within Shell across Nigeria’s offshore, shallow water and onshore businesses with international assignments in Kazakhstan and Brunei.

Elohor

Elohor became CEO of SNEPCo in 2021, the first woman to hold the position. She led the deepwater business and associated investments in Nigeria with Bonga achieving its billionth barrel of oil in 2023. She left for Brunei in 2024 where she oversees resource performance, production and project delivery.

Elohor said: “I am excited by the opportunity to continue to contribute to the efficient running of Shell’s business in Nigeria and thus drive progress in a country we have been part of for more than 60 years. Marno has led from the heart over these six-plus years, supporting operations and breaking new ground in project delivery and growth. It is a legacy I wish to build on with the support of colleagues and other stakeholders.”

The new appointment will come into effect on August 1, 2026.
