Nigeria sweeps away undefeated Madagascar to top Group C

Team Nigeria produced another dominant display in the Billie Jean King Africa Cup Group III qualifiers in Gaborone, Botswana, defeating previously unbeaten Madagascar 3-0 to finish top of Group C and book their place in the promotion play-offs.

Success Ogunjobi set the tone in the opening singles, recovering from a first set loss to beat her Malagasy opponent 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and give Nigeria an early lead.

Oyinlomo Quadre then made it 2-0 with a calm 6-3, 6-3 victory over Iariniaina Tsantaniony, ending Madagascar’s unbeaten run in the competition and putting Nigeria on course for a sweep.

Quadre returned alongside Khadijat Mohammed in doubles, and the Nigerian pair defeated Madagascar 6-2, 6-0 to complete a flawless 3-0 victory.

With this result, Nigeria finishes at the top of Group C after an undefeated campaign in the round-robin, moving one step closer to promotion to Group II of Europe/Africa. Nigeria is now two wins away from promotion.
