DHQ announced the rescue of 10 NYSC members kidnapped in Kogi forest

Defense Headquarters has confirmed the rescue of 10 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) kidnapped by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State.

The corps members were rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area during an operation involving joint security forces, DHQ announced on Monday.

The victims were among 15 NYSC members who were reportedly kidnapped last week while traveling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.

The kidnapping has sparked concern among their families and the wider community, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding N20 million as ransom from the families of some of the corps members.

The military said security forces had succeeded in securing the freedom of 10 victims but were continuing operations to search for and rescue the remaining five corps members.

According to the Defense Headquarters, the ongoing operation also aims to trace and arrest those responsible for the kidnapping.

“The operation is still ongoing, and security forces are working to rescue the remaining victims and arrest the suspect,” DHQ said.

The military urges citizens and members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that can support ongoing rescue efforts.

“The public is advised to remain calm and alert and immediately report any suspicious movements or information that can help rescue the remaining victims and arrest the perpetrators,” said DHQ.

The rescue operation comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle kidnappings and other violent crimes along major highways and remote communities across the country.

With 10 of the 15 kidnapped corps members now rescued, security officials are expected to continue operations in and around the forest area until the remaining victims are recovered safely and the alleged kidnappers are brought to justice.
