NDC denies Dickson’s alleged APC pact, says ex-governor will not sabotage Obi and Kwankwaso

…Party dismisses claims of secret deal with ruling APC as ‘beer hall talk’

Nigeria’s Democratic Congress has rejected allegations that its national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, is secretly working with the ruling All Progressives Congress to weaken its 2027 presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The party described the claim as false and politically motivated, insisting that Dickson had neither entered into a secret agreement nor reached any open agreement with the APC.

The NDC, in a statement released on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Director of the OAS, said it was forced to respond to the allegations because the repeated circulation of unfounded claims could eventually be mistaken for truth.

The party said: “Our leadership would have ignored the beer hall chatter and whispers that were going around, but history teaches that lies told over and over again, if not refuted, are taken as truth by the naive.

“Therefore, we believe it is necessary to issue this strong and unequivocal rebuttal.”

The NDC specifically rejected insinuations that Dickson acted as a proxy for the APC or embarked on a plan to undermine Obi and Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

The party said the former Bayelsa State governor had no reason to sabotage the political platform he had chosen to build with other opposition figures.

“Our national leader, the distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, is not a front for the ruling APC or anyone else. He has no secret or overt deal whatsoever with the ruinous and diabolical APC regime,” the statement added.

The opposition party further argued that Dickson’s political history does not support the allegations, pointing out that he could have chosen to join the ruling party if he was interested in pursuing political expediency.

“Anyone who knows Senator Dickson’s public service record, and has common sense, will not associate him with any backroom deal to sabotage his own party and its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” the NDC said.

According to the party, Dickson deliberately chose what he described as the “hard and honorable path” of building a new political platform rather than switching to the APC.

The NDC said: “Senator Dickson could have taken the easy way out by joining the APC. Instead, he chose the hard and honorable path of building a like-minded party, a party that will liberate Nigeria from the grip of the buccaneers currently in power.”

The development comes amid growing political realignments and allegations of secret alliances as political parties and their candidates position themselves for the 2027 general elections.
