The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed its condolences to the Federal Government, the Nigerian Air Force and the families of the victims of the military plane crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, which reportedly claimed the lives of 25 people.
The forum described the loss of military personnel and crew as tragic, especially at a time when the country is battling insecurity, insurgency and terrorism.
In a statement by its national publicity secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF said the loss of military officers was particularly painful given their role in the fight against insecurity and terrorism.
The forum said the deaths of staff would also have a painful impact on their families, friends and other loved ones.
“The loss of life is tragic in all its ramifications, and comes at a very critical and challenging time for the nation,” the statement read.
The ACF welcomed the federal government’s decision to investigate the circumstances of the incident, saying lessons learned from the investigation should be used to prevent a recurrence.
He urged that the investigation help identify the circumstances that led to the tragedy and guide measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The forum expressed its condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria, the Nigerian Air Force, the military establishment at large and the families of the deceased.
He also prayed that those affected by the tragedy would be able to bear the loss and face the consequences.
