Adeleke tells APC Tinubu Alliance not political merger, rules out seat-sharing deal – THIS UPDATE

By Ayo Kehinde

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ruled out any agreement to share legislative and local government positions with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the political alliance supporting the re-election of President Bola Tinubu is not a merger of parties.

Adeleke said the understanding between him and his political partners was limited to the presidential election, dismissing reports that positions in the Senate, House of Representatives, Osun State House of Assembly and local government councils had been shared between Accord and APC.

The governor’s clarification follows claims circulating on social media that an alleged agreement between him and the Presidency ahead of the 2027 elections included an agreement to share elective positions in the state.

In a statement signed on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described the reports as “mere fabrications and fake news”.

He said discussions on the local government crisis are aimed at protecting the interests of various stakeholders and restoring grassroots governance, rather than facilitating a political agreement for the distribution of elective positions.

“As the governor of all indigenous people and residents of Osun, we are working to resolve the issue of local governance by ensuring that all interests are protected and taken care of,” he said in the statement.

The governor added that stakeholders recognized the restoration of grassroots governance as necessary for their political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

“As of now, all stakeholders agree that restoring bottom-up governance is a condition for the success of our campaign ahead of the 2027 elections,” he said.

Adeleke assured residents that the local government crisis will be resolved by the end of the year, while maintaining that negotiations on the dispute do not amount to an agreement to grant legislative seats to the APC.

He also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s re-election, stressing that the presidential alliance will not prevent participating parties from pursuing their separate interests in other elections.

“What unites the coalition partners is only the presidential election,” the governor said.

According to him, the goal of the coalition is to bring political stakeholders together to grant Tinubu another term in office, without extending the deal to legislative contests.

“As I said when inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the goal of the coalition is the presidential elections. The partners have agreed to unite to ensure that our dear President is re-elected,” he said.

Adeleke said Accord will field candidates for the legislative elections and will personally campaign for them, ruling out any agreement to share positions with the APC.

“I will work and campaign for Accord candidates in the state Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly,” he added.

He urged the political parties involved in the presidential coalition to support their respective candidates in the other elections, stressing that the electorate will decide the winners.

“I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates as I will for the Accord candidates. We have no agreement on the National Assembly and State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate, who will have the final say,” Adeleke concluded.
