
COAS shooters have been crowned champions of the 2024 National Handball League Division 1 in the men’s category.
COAS Shooters defeated Osun United by 21-16 goals in the men’s final which was played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium indoor sports hall in Benin City on Friday.
Team coordinator Brigadier General AR Bello strengthens the team and effectively supervises their training. The team was relegated about three years ago.
Brigadier General Bello, an elated man, revealed that it took the special intervention of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, through timely logistics for the team to achieve the desired results.
Bello said anything other than the trophy would not have been accepted because of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to supporting the team.
He said: “I want to thank God Almighty for using the coaches as a vehicle to manage the COAS shooters. Winning Division 1 and most importantly qualifying for the next season of the Ardova Handball Premier League is a very big deal.
“Special thanks to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja for his support to the team through the Chief of Army Training. Director of Army Physical Training, Brigadier General Abdulraheem Bello commended the team for bringing glory to the Army.
He said the Army has demonstrated the ability to excel in sports activities due to its proper planning and execution of programs.
He said: “The players and coaches are to be congratulated for honouring the Nigerian Army. The Army will continue to provide an enabling environment for athletes to thrive.”
