‘Fake news’ – Atiku aide dismisses Omatseye convoy claims

Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has denied claims by The Nation newspaper columnist Sam Omatseye that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate was holding a large convoy despite being a private citizen.

Omatseye in a video posted on his X account on Sunday, said: “This is the Waziri of Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President. This is his convoy leaving government. If he was in government, what would you expect to see?”🙆🏿‍♂️

“Meanwhile, Atiku has been one of the most vocal voices on the cost of governance and the need to reduce it!”

But in a response to the post on Monday, Ibe said the convoy did not belong to Atiku as the former vice president did not move with the convoy and cyclists.

He wrote: “A journalist’s job is to report the facts. But let’s be realistic, calling Sam Omatseye a journalist is like calling a clown a statesman.

“He is just Tinubu’s personal loudspeaker. And no, this is not @atiku’s convoy. The former VP does not use combat vehicles.”

In another tweet, Ibe added:

“Is @samomatseye always so childish, or is today a special occasion? It’s funny how he keeps spreading fake news.

“But even if this is Atiku’s convoy, how does that somehow excuse Tinubu’s astonishing incompetence that has brought our country to its knees?”
