Adelabu resigned as minister of power, to pursue ambitions to become governor

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has resigned from his post to pursue his ambition to become governor in the 2027 general elections.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is eyeing the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket for next year’s gubernatorial election in Oyo State.

In his resignation letter dated 22 April 2026 addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Adelabu said his resignation from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) would take effect from 30 April.

He thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in his government.

“I write with profound respect and profound gratitude to officially tender my resignation as the Honorable Minister of Power of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This resignation will be effective on April 30, 2026, to allow sufficient time for a smooth and orderly handover of responsibilities.

“Your Excellency, I remain sincerely grateful for the privilege and trust you have placed in me by appointing me to serve our great country in this capacity,” Adelabu wrote.
