Adeleke rejected the court ruling dissolving the Accord Party, alleging it violated the Court of Appeal’s directive

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has challenged the decision of the Federal High Court ordering the deregistration of five political parties, insisting that the decision was taken contrary to the directive issued by the Court of Appeal.

The governor described the decision as a serious procedural error and an abuse of the judicial process, arguing that the matter was already before the appeals court, which had instructed that further proceedings be halted pending the appeal’s decision.

In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke expressed disbelief that the Federal High Court continued to deliver its judgment despite being informed of the existing order of the appeal court.

According to the governor, relevant records from the High Court have been submitted to the court as evidence.

“It was noted before His Honor Judge Peter Lifu that the records of the Court of Appeal hearing dated 22 May 2026 have been submitted before His Honor as Exhibit MAC 2.

“The Court of Appeal specifically stated that the delivery of the decision is still part of the court process,” the statement read in part.

Adeleke stressed that the legal battle was far from over and urged the people, especially supporters of the Accord Party in Osun State, not to be alarmed by the development.

The governor expressed confidence that the appeals court will address the issue when it hears on Tuesday, and emphasized that the party’s legal rights will ultimately be protected.

“I call on the people of Osun to remain calm and confident that our rights will be upheld and our party, Accord, will go to the polls on August 15.

“We will not only take part in the election, we will win a landslide victory in the next gubernatorial election. We must remain calm and continue to mobilize the people.

“I also want to assure our people that our campaign will be held as scheduled tomorrow. They want to divert our attention. We will move forward and we won this election. Our lawyers are taking all necessary steps to correct mistakes,” the governor said.

Despite the legal uncertainty resulting from the court decision, Adeleke said campaign activities for the upcoming governorship election would proceed as planned, stressing that neither the decision nor the ensuing controversy would derail the party’s preparations.

The governor’s reaction came hours after the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered its decision to cancel the registration of five political parties, a decision that has sparked fresh legal and political debate ahead of the Osun governorship election.

As the Court of Appeal is expected to hear the matter, attention is now focused on the appeals process, which could determine the participation of affected parties in future elections.
