Alake revokes Baale’s nomination over border dispute

The Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has revoked the appointment of Chief Adewunmi Gbenga as Baale of Elejirin village, declaring the installation null and void with immediate effect following a review of the territorial status of the community.

PLATFORM TIMES has obtained a copy of the revocation letter dated June 15, 2026, addressed by the Alakes to Oluwo Municipality of Ijeja, Chief Mukaila Atanda Akinwande.

In the letter, Oba Gbadebo explained that the decision followed a review which revealed that the community referred to as Elejirin village belongs to Oba Municipality and not Ijeja Municipality as presented earlier.

According to the monarch, the certificate of appointment issued to Chief Adewunmi Gbenga as Baale of Elejirin Village, with certificate no. OK.IV/.001014, has been revoked and declared null and void with immediate effect.

The Alake ordered that the decision be given the widest possible publicity throughout Egbaland.

Reacting to this development, Ago Oba’s Traditional Council described the monarch’s action as a decisive step aimed at preserving traditional order and ensuring administrative clarity within the kingdom.

The council, led by the Oluwo of Oba, Chief Olusegun Osoba, maintains that the area called Elejirin village is part of Pakudi territory and is not a separate community under Ijeja Municipality.

He added that the only recognized Baale of Pakudi is Chief Adegbenga Kolawole Olaleye.

The traditional council reaffirmed its loyalty to Alake and the Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, saying the revocation would promote peace, unity and respect for established traditional authority across Egbaland.

The council also urged residents and other stakeholders to comply with the monarch’s directive in the interest of maintaining harmony and order within the traditional institution.
