Alonso is the right man for the job at Chelsea: Leboeuf

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has praised the appointment of Xabi Alonso as Chelsea Football Club’s new manager, calling him the perfect choice and authoritative leader the club has needed for years.

Leboeuf in a talk with Tribal footballHe stated that Alonso brings the tactical intelligence and aura that has been missing from the Stamford Bridge dressing room.

He expressed his extreme happiness at the club getting a coach of his pedigree.

“Yes and yes, he is a great player. He used to be a great player and he knows football. What he did for Bayer Leverkusen was just incredible because he was in control and the people in the board allowed him to do whatever he wanted.

“And he did it intelligently and the guy is one of the smartest guys like Pep Guardiola as a coach. And if Chelsea want to achieve something, they have to change their mind. They can’t have control of the field, but they can have control of the finances and everything that happens in the office.

“But when it comes to the field, Xabi Alonso should be the only one in charge, and I hope they understand that. I’m very happy that they chose Xabi Alonso. Congratulations to them, good decision, I’m pretty sure that Xabi Alonso will do very well if he is in control.”

Leboeuf made 144 appearances for Chelsea, winning two FA Cups, a League Cup, a Cup Winners’ Cup and a UEFA Super Cup. His time in the Premier League was the pinnacle of his career and he still has a lot of affection for the club he helped achieve so much success.
