Armed men attack Ekiti church during revival, kill pastor, kidnap…

On Tuesday evening, terror arrived at the altar.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have invaded a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, seat of Ilejemeje Local Government, opening fire on worshipers gathered for a special revival programme.

A herdsman simply identified as Aregbe was killed on the spot.

Many others were injured.

An unconfirmed number of faithful are missing.

Witnesses said the attackers stormed the church around 6.45pm, firing on the congregation.

The faithful dispersed into the surrounding bush. Some have made it. Others were hit.

Ilejemeje Local Government Chairman Pius Alaba confirmed the attack.

He said the pastor in charge reported that several worshipers were missing and that the exact number of those abducted was still unknown.

“The dead body of the slain pastor has been deposited at the morgue,” Alaba said.

At least six worshipers were reported missing, raising fears that they had been taken by the gunmen.

Others are nursing gunshot wounds.

A community member said residents were living in fear and appealed to the government to urgently deploy security personnel to the area.

At the time of writing, security agencies had not yet released an official statement on the attack.
