Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that his decision to pursue a career in music led to the breakdown of his close relationship with his father, Fatai Odunsi.
The Sungba singer shared his personal account during a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO that aired on Wednesday, offering insight into the sacrifices behind his rise in the music industry.
According to Asake, his father strongly opposed his ambitions at a critical time in his life, causing a rift between the two. He described their early bond as close but said tensions emerged when he sought independence to pursue his musical aspirations.
“My father and I were very close when I was young. But one day I wanted to leave home to do what I do now, but my father said, ‘No.’ I went anyway,” Asake said, highlighting the defining moment that changed their relationship.

This revelation sheds further light on the controversy that hit the headlines in March 2025, when Odunsi publicly accused the singer of ignoring and neglecting him. The claims sparked widespread reaction online, with fans and commentators weighing in on the family feud.
After the backlash, father and son moved to resolve their differences. Asake later reconciles with his father and takes responsibility for his well-being, signaling a shift towards rebuilding their relationship after the public fallout.
Asake’s story reflects a broader narrative familiar to many young creatives navigating traditional expectations and personal ambitions, highlighting the often difficult choices behind success in Nigeria’s booming entertainment industry.
