Aviation and Aerospace Development Mini Howster, Festus Keyamo has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar is suffering from severe depression.
Keyamo in a post on his official X account on Friday, said Atiku is now very sad and bitter because President Bola Tinubu outsmarted him politically.
Keyamo’s remarks came after Atiku criticized Tinubu’s 30-day petrol price discount.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, says the Federal Government is offering discounts on fuel provided by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, for the next 30 days.
Responding to this, Keyamo said, Atiku was angry because Tinubu managed to win the presidency on his first attempt, even though he (Atiku) had been running since 1993.
The minister recalled that both men had been in politics for decades, and stressed that when Tinubu was governor of Lagos, Atiku was Deputy President.
According to him, at that time Atiku was seen as higher on the political ladder, but Tinubu eventually became President.
Keyamo stated that Atiku’s allies should help him seek mental health support rather than encourage his anger, and said his behavior could cost him his remaining supporters as he heads into political decline.
“What we are witnessing with all the recent anger towards Mr President, disguised as a heroic act of opposition, is actually a higher form of depression in the mental health field called agitated depression.
“It is now very clear that Atiku Abubakar is a suffering and very bitter person. That pain and bitterness stems from the fact that he feels President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ultimately outsmarted him politically to get the most coveted position of President and he cannot mentally face this reality,” Keyamo said.
