The Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Babatunde Hunpe, has urged the Lagos State Government to increase the number of Private Sector Stakeholders (PSPs) to improve waste management across the municipal area.
Hunpe made the call during a health inspection on Saturday, covering key communities such as Badagry Roundabout, Jegba Quarters, Posukoh Quarters and Wharakoh Quarters. He noted that current PSP operators are insufficient to meet the demands of a rapidly growing population.
“The most effective way to dispose of waste is to put it in a bag and hand it over to PSP operators. Burning of waste should be avoided,” Hunpe advised residents.
He highlighted that the council continues to deploy resources to eliminate indiscriminate dumping and keep neighborhoods cleaner. Environmental health officers and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) force have been mobilized to ensure compliance with regulations during and after the sanitization exercises.
The President also praised residents for actively participating in the monthly environmental exercise, noting that many cleaned their surroundings even before the municipality teams arrived. Waste collection was facilitated using tricycles provided by the municipality, while environmental officers monitored compliance with correct disposal practices.
Hunpe encouraged residents to maintain good habits and noted that awareness of the monthly sanitation campaign has been gradually increasing. While visiting Jegba neighborhoods, he presented cash prizes to residents who had maintained their environment while waiting for the sanitation team to arrive.
“Our joint efforts will create a healthier and cleaner Badagry, and I urge everyone to continue supporting environmental initiatives,” he said
