Basic glory: Akabo United FC I turn on the path to young people

In the heart of Ikeduru LGA, in the state of imo, a quiet revolution in basic football is taking shape – and its name is the Akabo United football team. Founded in 2018, this modest but determined club is quickly becoming an anchor of salvation for young talents and a symbol of hope for the sports development led by the community.

During an interactive session with the chapter of the IMO State of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (Swan), held at the Club’s training field in the Elementary School of the Akabo community, the vision behind Akabo United was put bare. The founder and coach, Mr. Arikibe Darlington Onyekachi, tracked down the humble beginnings of the club and the journey through the high -end high and bass. “It was not easy,” he said, “but we are busy giving young players a platform. Despite limited funding, we pushed.”

Since its institution, the club appeared in the 2023 IMO State League and has taken part in tournaments outside the state, all aimed at providing its players with the exhibition they need to grow. The result? Some have already attracted the attention of the largest clubs and an extraordinary talent has gained a call to the U15 national team.

The addition of a global dimension to the club’s aspirations is Mrs. Sinvo Nicol Tina, Finnish expatriate and vice president of Akabo United. Passionate about youth Empowerment, he described the club as “a project built on purpose”. Tina has revealed that plans are underway to establish a football academy in Akabo and form strategic partnerships with sports development agencies in Finland. In addition to football, its mission is wider: to ensure that the young people of the community are not only athletically developed, but also socially and economically equipped for the future.

The Akabo United FC currently trains daily on the school’s open field, led by a shared dream and an incessant determination. And while the tone can be humble, ambition is far from. For this club, the future does not concern only the objectives marked, but the lives have turned.
