Davido distances himself from the City Children’s Movement amid backlash

Afrobeats star Davido has rejected claims linking him to the pro-Tinubu City Kids Movement, and insisted he is not affiliated with the group despite being friends with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.

The singer has come under fire after speaking out against insecurity in Nigeria following recent attacks that claimed several lives. In an emotional post on X, Davido lamented the state of his country and urged entertainers to do more to use their platforms to address pressing national issues.

“I’m weak God please control we can’t go on like this….. my heart goes out to the victims and families.. this is messed up. I can’t lie we are entertainers.. we Dey fckup I won’t lie including me… we need to speak up… too much injustice is happening.. our country don’t go away,” he wrote.

His comments sparked mixed reactions online, with some critics accusing him of selectively criticizing the government while maintaining close ties with people associated with the presidency. One user specifically alleged that the singer was linked to the City Children’s Movement, a claim that was quickly denied by Davido.

Responding directly, the ‘Unavailable’ singer laid out her position in a blunt four-point statement. “1. I’m not part of any city boy group 2. When I call out the government in the American media, you guys rain abuse on me 3. I’ve been friends with ST for years and that’s where they stop and I call and complain to him all the time.. even in person 4. GOD PURNISH UR GENERATION,” he wrote.
