Judge Abbas Bawule from the State High Court of Katsina has punished the Administrative Director at Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority (SRRBDA), Rabiu Musa Matazu, for a six -year prison sentence for N305,000 fraud.
Matazu was charged with independent corruption practices and other relevant violation commissions (ICPC), on charges of four criminal violation counts over the trust and abuse of position.
Prisoners, according to a statement issued by the commission on Wednesday, converted public funds into personal use.
During the trial, the ICPC prosecutor, Ibrahim Garba, told the court that prisoners received the number of N305,000 from his subordinates, Lawal and Sarki, as a result of leasing from SRRBDA’s property in Katsina.
But instead of sending money to the agency account, he diverted it to his personal gain.

One of the charges read: “That you, Rabiu Musa Matazu, sometimes in October 2014 or thereabout within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, used your position as director of administration, Sokoto River River Basin Development Authority. The total sum of N305,000 proceeds from rent collected on the behavior of your agency, which you convert to your personal use and there are committed to offense contrary to and punishable under the 19th of the practice of corruption and other related violations, 2000. “
Matazu claimed to be innocent for the accusation when they were read to him.
In his assessment, Judge Bawule sentenced to six months in prison or the N20,000 fine option on count 1, 2, and 3.
He was sentenced to five years in prison without a fine option on the fourth count.
The sentence goes together.
