Edo: 2 arrested for alleged self-kidnapping


The Edo State Police Command has arrested two men on charges of staging a kidnapping to extort $4 million from the family of one of the suspects.

The spokesman for the command, Eno Ikoedem, revealed this on Sunday in Benin.

Mrs Ikoedem, Assistant Superintendent of Police, identified the suspects as Lucky Alabi, 48, and Taiye Enahoro, 37, both from Uneme Akpama community in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of ​​Edo.

He said officers from the Igarra Police Division arrested the suspects on June 26 following intelligence-led investigations.

According to her, preliminary investigations revealed that the alleged criminal plot was executed on June 23.

He stated that Mr. Enahoro made several phone calls to Mr.’s relatives. Alabi, falsely claiming that Mr. Alabi had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of $4 million for his release.

“Acting on credible information and through diligent investigative efforts, police officers uncovered the deception and successfully arrested both suspects,” he said.

Ms. Ikoedem added that both suspects confessed to their roles in the alleged self-abduction. (NAN)
