EFCC President Speaks Out on UUTH Incident, Apologies to Ekpe, NMA – THISAGE

Following the receipt and consideration of a preliminary report on the May 12, 2026 incident involving Commission staff and medical staff of Uyo University Hospital, the Executive Chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede, directed an apology to Professor Eyo Ekpe, the Vice President, the UUTH Medical Advisory Committee and members of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA.

While acknowledging that the welfare of Nigerians is at the heart of the mandate of the Commission, he expressed regret at the distress the unfortunate incident has caused to the hospital staff and the public.

Reiterating the Commission’s decision to order a full investigation into the incident, he assured that once the operation is complete, any official found to have acted outside the acceptable professional code of conduct will be subjected to the internal disciplinary process.

Olukoyede expressed determination to work with stakeholders to resolve all issues and prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future. However, he said the unfortunate incident will not deter the commission from carrying out the execution of its mandate in any part of Nigeria

He called on members of the NMA and other professional bodies to continue to support the EFCC in the delicate task of ridding Nigeria of economic and financial crimes and other forms of corruption.
