The finalists emerged from the Egba Zone of the RIYE Under-15 Athletics Circuit after a thrilling inaugural qualifier held on Monday at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The youth athletics competition, organized by the Tunde Delu Initiativeattracted 18 schools to the Egba zone qualifier, underlining the growing interest in the development of grassroots athletics across Ogun State. Participating schools included Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy, Abeokuta Grammar School, Salawu Abiola Comprehensive High School, Rev. Kuti Memorial Anglican School, Greenland Academy, Well Watered Schools, Lafenwa High School and several others.
How grading works
The competition began with an athlete evaluation session before moving on to the athletics events. The top two finishers in each event secured their place in the Grand Final of the RIYE Under-15 Athletics Circuitscheduled for June 26 at MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.
Egba area results: event tracking
Men’s 100 meters: Adigun Noah took first place in 11.56 secondswith Ehisanya Success qualifying second with a time of 11.81 seconds.
Women’s 100 meters: Elekede achieved victory 12.42 secondsahead of Adegbite Ikmot, who finished second in 12.72 seconds.
Men’s 200m: Adigun Noah continued his dominant display, winning the 200m to book a second place in the grand final. Oyeniran Lukman took second place.
women’s 400 meters: Gogo Eunice won the event and Balogun Dorcas finished second. In the men’s 400 meters, Adebayo David and Lasisi Adisa claimed the first two qualifying positions.
Egba Zone Results: Field Events
Men’s Shot Put: Adesanya Ayanfe and Adegbesan Success secured the first two places.
Girls Shot Put: Olowobese Seyi and Odesanya Oyinkansola qualified in the women’s category.
Men’s long jump: Awesu Abdulwahab won the event, with Olatunji Jomiloju finishing second.
Women’s Long Jump: Oyelaja Ayowande and Okewole Olamide took the first and second qualifying positions respectively.

Speaking after the Egba zone qualification match, Honorable. Tunde Delufounder of the Tunde Delu Initiative, expressed his satisfaction at the great participation of schools, athletes and spectators.
“This initiative is aimed at discovering and nurturing young athletic talents across Ogun State,” Delu said, adding that he is confident that the competition will produce future champions.
He congratulated all the participants for their enthusiasm and competitive spirit and expressed optimism for the upcoming qualifiers in Ilaro, Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode.
What’s next: RIYE Under-15 Athletics Circuit Schedule
The RIYE U-15 Athletics Circuit will continue with zonal heats across Ogun State before all the finalists converge for the grand final on June 26 at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta. The competition represents an important platform to identify and develop the next generation of Nigerian athletics stars at the under-15 level.
