Ekiti Police sack officer for misconduct related to illicit drug use

The Ekiti State Police Command has officially dismissed Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope following his involvement in an incident associated with illicit drug use. The sacking was confirmed by the state police spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, in a statement released on Friday.

The officer was captured in a viral video on May 9 in Ikole-Ekiti, displaying erratic behavior allegedly due to consumption of illicit substances. The video required the immediate intervention of the police command.

According to SP Abutu, Temitope underwent medical and psychological evaluations as part of the internal disciplinary process. While the psychological evaluation confirmed that he was emotionally stable, medical tests revealed traces of tobacco and amphetamines in his system. The officer reportedly admitted to using illicit drugs during the subsequent investigation.

Following the completion of internal disciplinary procedures, Temitope was found guilty of misconduct. The command recommended his resignation, which was accepted and issued immediately.

SP Abutu stressed that the Ekiti State Police Command remains committed to discipline and professionalism, warning that unprofessional behavior or actions that tarnish the image of the force will not be tolerated. Police Commissioner Falade Micheal reiterated the need for officers to maintain integrity, responsibility and professionalism in all duties.
