Fayose threatens a political showdown with Makinde and vows to work against the Oyo governor

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has declared an open political confrontation with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, vowing to mobilize forces against him in future elections for alleged betrayal and marginalization within the Peoples Democratic Party.

Fayose, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television, accused Makinde of dismantling the PDP structure in the South West and ignoring established political relationships, warning that the governor will face stiff opposition in the future.

The former governor said his political machine remained intact and capable of influencing election results, stressing that loyalty and respect are key to political alliances.

“If you respect me, you get all the values and support of Fayose. If you disrespect me, you get the disadvantage,” he said, adding that he would not allow himself to be taken for granted in party politics.

Fayose compared her current relationship with Makinde to that of “a mother who has had her child taken away,” describing her reaction as fierce and uncompromising.

According to him, “When you take a woman’s child, she becomes a lion. That’s how angry I got with Makinde when she crossed the line.”

He declared that he and his loyalists would actively work against Makinde in the ensuing elections, insisting that the Oyo governor’s political decisions had created deep fissures within the PDP in the region.

“And I can say it once again, in the next election we will work against him,” Fayose said.

The PDP chief also accused Makinde of failing to accord due respect to party elders, stressing that as a former governor, he deserved recognition and consultation in political matters affecting the region.

“Courtesy demands that you give us the right of way. If you want to take my head, I will take your head,” he said.

Fayose further said Makinde had alienated key stakeholders and amassed political enemies, warning that such developments could undermine his long-term political ambitions.

He also criticized the governor’s perceived presidential ambition, describing it as the start of his political problems within the party.

While acknowledging Makinde’s popularity, Fayose cautioned against equating public support with electoral victory, recalling that his political experience has shown that popularity does not always translate into success at the polls.

“When people clap for you, don’t assume it’s a victory. Politics is deeper than what you see,” he said.

Despite repeated threats of political retaliation, Fayose appeared to downplay the intensity of the feud, saying: “I don’t have any war,” but maintained that “time will tell” how events would unfold.
